The Phantasy Renewed

I was finally able to track down and import a copy of Sega Ages 2500 Vol. 1 Phantasy Star: Generation 1 for the PS2. The original Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System was my first RPG.

He generally will tell you he wants to eat a nut of laerma, ye have but to ask.

It was amazing for it’s time, almost like a 10-bit title during an 8-bit Age. It’s still the one game I know I can always go back to and play. I will always love it.

So ever since the remake was released in Japan back in 2003, I have been patiently waiting for them to find an excuse to localize it for North America. There was at least one false alarm when Conspiracy Games claimed they would be taking care of it in the form of a “Phantasy Star Trilogy” which would have included the remakes of Phantasy Star 1, 2, and 4. The Phantasy Star 4 remake has never been shown and hasn’t been mentioned in a few years, so at this point it may never be remade. So the Trilogy project was cancelled, and I got tired of waiting. Plus, the fact that the copy I found was only going to cost about $30, compared to the $60-80 that I have seen it priced the other times it has crossed my path. It was past time to jump back into Algol.

My ability to read and understand Japanese is most definitely lacking. So with the help of a website that offered a translation of PSG1, I set out once again to protect the citizens of the Algol system. I’m really enjoying it so far, the constant translating back and forth is making me take it at a slower pace, but that means I can enjoy it that much longer.
