It’s one thing to shout “Don’t open that door!” to the clueless protagonist of a slasher film, but what do you do when you’re controlling that endangered character and you’ve got to twist that doorknob? From zombies to ghosts to the just plain criminally insane, the horror videogames in this year’s hellish crop unleash a wide variety of things that go bump (and stab) in the night.
Just in time for Halloween, Wired.com has rounded up some terrifying trailers carefully concocted to freak you out as much as any scary movie. The clips are for games that are available now or coming later this year (plus one highly anticipated game that’s waiting to shock you in 2010).

Oh, those wacky infected zombies. Won’t they ever learn that shotguns are bad? Resident Evil 5, the latest entry in the classic horror franchise, takes you to Africa, where the run-down, desiccated slums are creepier than the drooling mutants chasing you around them. Released earlier this year on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the newly released PC version adds stereoscopic 3-D graphics (if you’ve got the right equipment).
