Recession be damned: Desert Bus For Hope collected $132,608.94 for the Child’s Play charity over the long holiday weekend.
Beginning on November 20, the crew from comedy troupe LoadingReadyRun played a non-stop marathon of the tedious “Desert Bus” mini-game from the unreleased Sega CD game Penn & Teller’s Smoke and Mirrors. So long as donors kept the the coins coming, LoadingReadyRun kept playing. Supporters at home watched events unfold on a live video feed and followed along with the Twitter hash tag #desertbus.
Five days later, Desert Bus For Hope put the brakes on its virtual road trip after having nearly doubled the $70k the organization donated to Child’s Play last year.
Those who missed out on the fun can donate to Child’s Play directly or attend a local fundraising event.
